Very nice - allowed me to look at UltraVNC, its security plugin and Zebedee all without having to install anything :) You might want to add something about 'LoopBackOnly' - you say in your document (bottom of page 8) "It is important to be aware that just because you are running the Zebedee application, does not mean UltraVNC stops listening for connections on its normal ports in a manner not protected by Zebedee."
Using LoopBackOnly, you can configure your server so that it will only accept sessions that come though your encrypted Zebedee tunnel. I use LoopBackOnly on my server at home, the only way I can see my desktop is after a successful log-in via SSH. HTH Chris http://www.realvnc.com/winvnc.html#11 LoopbackOnly By default, WinVNC servers accept incoming connections on any network adapter address, since this is the easiest way of coping with multihomed machines. In some cases, it is preferable to listen only for connections originating from the local machine and aimed at the "localhost" adapter - a particular example is the use of VNC over SSH to provide secure VNC. Setting this registry entry to 1 will cause WinVNC to only accept local connections - this overrides the AllowLoopback and AuthHosts settings. Setting this entry to zero causes WinVNC to accept connections on any adapter and is the default setting.Local machine-specific setting. P.s. can you send a link to the page that lists your PDF to Scott at http://faq.gotomyvnc.com/fom-serve/cache/1.html ? Up-to-date information on tunnelling is always nice to have around. -----Original Message----- To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Securing UltraVNC V.1.2 From: "Mark G. I just finished up the latest draft of my document "Securing UltraVNC V.1.2" .. I'm looking for any suggestions, e.g. additional information, making it easier to follow, etc. You can find the document at: http://www.evidentdata.com/2003/EvidentData%20Securing%20UltraVNC%20V1.2.pdf Also .. it's targeted at UltraVNC because that's what I use. Any comments on whether the information in my document would be applicable to VNC in general would be helpful and I'll update the document accordingly. Thanks! The FAQ and the archives suggest I should use Ctrl-Ins and Shift-Ins but that doesn't seem to work in my case. Is there something I'm missing? I'm using the latest version of VNC (client on Windows 2000 SP4, server on Solaris 8) --__--__-- Message: 4 From: "Robert O Dell" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: winvnc.exe -install pop-up window Date: Thu, 04 Dec 2003 22:19:10 -0500 Is there anyway to install the winvnc as a service and not recieve the windows pop-up telling you that the service was successfully registered?
