To me, this really osunds like a user v machine password conflict, but you've said that's not the case. I'm afraid that I don't know what else to suggest, except uninstalling/reinstalling or teying another version (both Real and Tight VNC have beta vesions at the moment).
Anyone else have an idea? P.s. Bonne annee to everyone. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, 30 December, 2003 16:17 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: Connecting to a 2000 Pro machine when not logged in Service is set to start automatically. No on the terminal services. This machine is running Win 2000 Pro SP 4. It used to be on our network but I needed a machine that is outside the network so when this one came available so I used it. It has it's own public ip and is not part of our domain. I installed TightVNC 1.2.9 on it so I could access it from my office at work and at home. When I log in to the machine (locally not the domain), at the machine, VNC works flawlessly. If I log out of that machine I can't connect at all from anywhere. I have several other machines here at work setup with TightVNC and they all work weather the user is logged in or not, either from within the network or outside the network. = = = Original message = = = Are you using XP? If so, do you have "Fast User Switching" activated? Unfortunately VNC is not compatible with FUS (only solution is to turn off this feature). Have you been using terminal services / Windows remote desktop? If so expect some problems, have a look at the archives for more details. Check that the service is set to start automatically (Control Panel, Admin Tools, Services). If none of this works, give us a bit more info about your setup - OS, VNC version, network config etc for both host and client. And you say that if someone is logged onto the host machine, your client can successfully connect? It never makes it to the password screen. It acts as if VNC isn't running as a service when I'm not logged in so I always get the "Failed To Connect To Server" dialog box. Doi I need to create a user other than admin on that machine possibly? = = = Original message = = = - you need to run the VNC server as a service - make sure you set the password via "Show Default Settings" in the VNC menu - Start, Program Files, VNC, Administration, Show Default Settings (this sets the 'machine' versus the 'user' password; it's the 'machine' password that is used if no user is logged on). -----Original Message----- Reply-To: "Paul Montgomery" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> From: "Paul Montgomery" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Connecting to a 2000 Pro machine when not logged in Date: Mon, 29 Dec 2003 10:31:31 -0600 Hello everyone, I apologize if this question has been asked before but I couldn't find anything on it in the archives. I have a standalone pc that is outside our network and has it's own external ip address. It won't let me connect unless I'm actually logged in to that machine already. By this I mean that it won't even find the machine when I'm not logged in to it. I get the 'Failed To Connect To Server" message. I have many other machines on our internal network that I can connect to from either within the network or outside the network without being logged in. Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks, Paul Montgomery IT Manager FMMI _______________________________________________ VNC-List mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] To remove yourself from the list visit: http://www.realvnc.com/mailman/listinfo/vnc-list ___________________________________________________________ Sent by ePrompter, the premier email notification software.
