Please help me with setting up VNC in my home network.

I have read all the FAQ, documentation and this list -- to no avail.

My setup:

1) D-Link DI624 router - has NAT, and is connected to cable modem with DHCP from ISP.

2) 1 desktop and 1 laptop computer networked via router as a LAN. Both computers can
connect to the Internet and share files without problems.

3) both computers run Windows XP Pro with Norton Internet security programs, and both
have XP and Norton firewalls disabled. I rely on the router's NAT firewall.

4) XP's Remote admin/desktop services, fast user switching are off.

5) Both computers running VNC for windows v 4.0b4 (Server as services, and Viewer when
program is started) and both programs are configured as suggested. Both computers can
ping each other.

6) Port forwarding is set up on the router for ports 5800 and 5900, TCP on both to
each computer's LAN address (192.x.x.x). The test at gotomyvnc.com stated that port
forwarding through 5900 is active for display 0 for my LAN.

After both computers are running VNC server, I tried to connect from either computer
to the other one with VNC viewer or Listening VNC viewer, with the following results:

        a) When making new connections to "LAN address" or "LAN address:5800 or :5900"
or "WAN address:5800 or :5900", this error is seen-
        "server closed connection unexpectedly"

        b) if making new connection to "WAN address:5801 or :5901", I get this error:
"unable to connect to host: Connection refused (10061)"

I can't connect via Internet Explorer by typing http://WAN address:5800 or 5801 or
5900 or 5901" either.

Any help or suggestions will be GREATLY appreciated!
