        So, the exact words of the error is "failed to connect", right?  That means 
the expected port, 5900, can't be reached.  Have you registered the server as a 
service?  Have you checked its status in system's Service console?

        Usually, you'd better first run "register the server....", logout and then 
login, and if everything's fine, you could see the service helper icon in the system 
tray.  FYI, for normal usage, you don't have to delete any registry key.

        My suggestion is:
unregistered the service
logout the session and login again to make sure the service help isn't in the system 
tray
register the service again
logout and login the session and check if the service helper appears in the system 
tray.

        If it's there but the problem persists, check the properties.  Make sure 
you're not using a display number other than 0.
