If the user isn't replying to the list then why should it be filtered with mails that 
are through the list?  If someone replies off list it means:

a) they didn't realize it and need some assistance in replying to the list

or 

b) it contains info that they don't want on the list.

In either case, I wouldn't want those messages grouped with ones that come through the 
list.  In the case of (a) I want to add a reminder to reply to the list, or possibly 
just ignore it if they haven't listed to previous reminders.  In the case of (b) I 
don't want to be sending that info back to the list.

All adding a subject tag does is take up space, and possibly confuse people into 
thinking something got to the whole list when it in fact didn't.
