Heya. Like many things, the answer to your question is simple,
but the realization of the answer can be quite tricky.
At a high level, the answer is this: one side of your VNC
connection must be able to initiate network connections to the other
side. Once you have that working, you'll be able to establish VNC
connections in either direction (ie, take remote control of your work
PC from home, or your home PC from work).
The tricky part is, of course, there are many network components
involved in your specific situation which are conspiring to make that
high level goal a difficult one. For instance, your workplace firewall:
its job is to specifically prevent connection requests initiated from
the "outside" from reaching any computers on the "inside". Similarly,
if you have a DSL router (aka, a "gateway" or "NAT'ing modem") at home,
that too will prevent connections from being established easily.
To start peeling this onion, let's presume you don't have
administrative control over your workplace firewall (otherwise, I doubt
you'd be asking for advice in this forum, you'd be giving it ;). Try
to get your VNC Server at home accepting connections from the Internet,
then try connecting to it from work. Once you've got *that* working,
we'll be much closer to what you want to do.
