On the other hand, it is trivial to setup static internal IP addresses
for your machines if your router supports such a thing.

Essentially, you are simply telling the router to always assign the
same internal IP address to a particular internal MAC address; the MAC
addresses for each of your machines can usually be displayed within
the router configuration pages.

By doing this, you gain the advantage of always knowing the IP address
of your internal machines but you retain the benefit of DHCP in that
you don't have to configure static IP addressing in the network
properties of each machine.
