In my experience things don't stop working unless something (and it may
not be obvious WHAT) has changed.  You didn't say what OS the machine in
China is using but my suspicion is that it is WinXP.  If so, SP2 probably
downloaded and installed itself and that enables the XP firewall by
default.  Try turning the XP firewall off (or allow VNC traffic) and see
if it works - but I don't know how you do that if you cannot get into the
machine!
