VNC4.0 Client on W2K dialup (ie.slow) to Internet
SSH tunnel terminated on Linux 7.3 DMZ host using PuTTY 0.55 Port
5900.
VNC4.0 Server on WXPPro SP2 FW enabled
Behind Linux 8.0 bastion iptables FW on a cable link.
tcp/5900 routed (forwarded) from Linux 7.3 to WinXP Pro host
Initial connection proceeded normally - VNC Server password was entered and
the viewer window opened to show the XP Login screen. Selected a user id
and entered the Win password. Viewer then opened to a black screen.
Curiously when I minimised the screen and then tried to enlarge it only
opened a small window with no screen display - only big enough to show VNC
in the title bar and the standard _OX icons at the top right.
This window was not resizable - although I could switch to FullScreen (still
black) and back to Minimised.
Eventually I closed this and opened another Viewer session which after
soliciting the VNC password displayed a VNC Viewer:Error panel -
"SelectObject to CompatibleDC failed: The operation completed successfully.
(0)" [OK]
Will post more details when I get home and can test from behind the bastion
FW. I suspect SP2 is complicit - are there any other likely possibilities?
Regards,
Frank.
