If Im actually logged into the machine as myself (past the login screen I mean), I can change the display number in the properties to 1 and set the port on my firewall to 5901 and point it to the machine and I can then login remotely using xxx.xxx.xxx.xx:1. If I logout and have the pc go to the login screen, vnc defaults back to 5900 with no display #. It will only keep the display 1 (port 5901) setting if Im actually logged into the machine as that particular user.

Does this help clarify it? Thanks.

Can you describe the process in a little more detail, specifically:

When logged in as a user, I can change the display to 1, open 5901 and
point it to the machine, and it works.
How do you change the display to 1? Open 5901?

Is this using version 4 of RealVNC?
