I have tried PCAnywhere and VNC ver 4.0 and both do the same thing - When I dial up the host crashes, requiring a hard reboot.
I have three PC running a process plant in Botswana which I need to provide remote support to from Johannesburg South Africa. I test both PCanywhere and VNC on the network, and the remote takeover of the screen and mouse works. The moment I connect my notebook to them via RAS(for VNC), the host crashes. PCAnywhere's dialup also crashes the host on connect. All the host PC running XP Pro SP1, with DHCP enabled and not configured IP addresses. My notebook is also running XP Pro SP1, with not IP on the network card or dial up. When I connect the notebook to the network, using the same network settings as the hosts, PCanywhere and VNC work 100%. I have tried to get Remote Assistance and Remote Desktop to work, but I can't get the network people to open the port 3389 of the firewall for me, so I don't think I will get them to open ports 5800+ or 5900+. Questions: Question 1: When I take out the network cable, how do I dial up to the hosts. I assume I use RAS - or what ?? Question 2: Do I have to disable Fast User Switching ? Question 3: Do I have to disable Remote Desktop/Assistance ? Question 4: DO I have to setup LMHOSTS for the host name to be resolved ? Question : HELP!!!!
