I finally succeeded in getting VNC to serve on a Redhat Linux box. If anyone wants the instructions I've laid out in a Word document (for people facing the same problems perhaps), please let me know and I'll send it your way. My problem was allowing port 5901 in the iptables firewall rules.
Also, I start the vncserver by entering 'vncserver :1' via a terminal each time. How can I make this run at boot time on a Redhat Linux machine?
