You can use something like www.no-ip.com or www.dyndns.org to create a dns
entry for your machine you wish to access from remote and then all you'd
have to do is put in the correct machine NAME and you'd not have to worry
about knowing the IP, as the dynamic DNS provider would handle that for you.
That being said, you do have to keep a dynamic IP client running on your
remote machine so that if something happens and the IP changes, you don't
try to connect to an IP that no longer belongs to your machine.

im a little confused about VNC. do i have to type each ip address into
the vnc server pc to access it from the remote computer. traveling
alot leaves me not near the vnc server pc, so how would i access it
from on the road?  it does work only when i type in the individual ip
address im on now.
