Thanks Wez and Eric for your replies. Wrapper was the term I was looking for, and yes, there's a notice in the actual program that states that VNC is used and is available from www.realvnc.com and that RealVNC is licensed under the GPL.

If, however, your application includes VNC as part of it, or does not acknowledge the use of VNC components, then you'll hit problems.
