I am also on a couple other lists (RHEL3 and RHEL4) and find mostly intelligent questions... However, I do read and post to many unix/linux newsgroups, and there are a lot of newbie posts, too - in most of those forums, the answer is usually 'please see the manual page blah' or 'please see FAQ section blah'. I personally have always found it more work to subscribe to a list than to just read the docs that are there in front of me!
I ran a BBS for 3-4 years (go SuperBBS!) and got a lot of dumb questions then, too :) And I don't mind dumb questions about more esoteric uses - some people won't read the whole doc, but a couple of people a day that have obviously made NO effort to use the software don't fill me with enthusiasm to write a reply! Anyway, I'm glad Wez doesn't (seem to) mind answering them :) Kevin -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Brian K. Is it just > me? :) It's not just you and it's not just vnc. I participate (primarily and an answer giver) in a number of techie mail lists and newsgroups and it's a chronic problem everywhere. Welcome to the internet after microsoft & aol, who made it accessible to joe sixpack, joe "i'm important and busy, you service me" manager, joe grocery-bagger-cum-NT-admin,... I miss the days of BBS's :) Brian K.
