Hi,
I'm a newbie to VNC and I'm using a VNC 4.0 free on both of my computer. Both of my computers have no firewall, I don't know why everytime i install and use the vnc, there is a virus called Backdoor.Evivinc infect my computer. I formatted the computer a few time, but it is still there when i install it the next time, i check the norton antivirus webpage and it said it comes in to my computer through TCP port 5800 and 5900.
I don't really want to turn on the window firewall coz that's very incovenient. To avoid the virus infection, can i solve the problem by changing the VNC port #? if yes which range of ports can i change the VNC to use? and how can i change it?
Regards, Richard Lui
Richard,
if you are connected to the internet with DSL or any kind of permanent connection, firewall is a must-be. You do not want to use windows firewall, this is your choice but I trully hope you use an other one. In case you don't you can try Kerio Personal Firewall that is free for personal use. Anyway, it is preferable to disconnect your computer when reinstalling the whole system. My experience is that some time ago, blaster came into my computer before/during the first reboot of windows
2000 when I re-installed it ! Therefore, you should :
1 - disconnect your computer 2 - format / reinstall windows 3 - install a firewall whichever it is 4 - reconnect your computer 5 - download and install a clean version of VNC
Hope this helps... Regards,
