Angus, You probably want to replace "twm" with "startkde". If you still see problems, ensure that you're not also logged in on the console of the Linux system with KDE - off the top of my head, I can't remember whether KDE refuses to run two sessions on the same machine for the same user, or whether that's only a Gnome problem.
