If I were to guess, I would say the problem is in the wireless
connection of the router.  I've had the exact same problem with
another model of Netgear routers.  Everything works fine over the
Ethernet cable connection, but not over the wireless.  I bet you the
following:

1.  If you connect you computer via Ethernet cable and hover over the
VNC icon, the ip address will not be 192.168.0.2, rather the IP you
get from your provider.

2.  If you connect via Ethernet cable, you will be able to access your computer.

3.  Even over wireless, you will be able to access your computer from
another one inside your LAN, but not from outside.

Someone with more knowledge of router software may be able to shed
some light as to why this is so.

It's because of this that I started an earlier request for a master
list of consumer routers which work fine with VNC over wireless. 
Alas, I've gotten no feedback.
