Hello, James:
Thanks for suggestion. I am not sure how to set the httpd parameter in
vnc.so. I am now starting vnc using the vncserver script file.
1) I am not sure how to set the httpd parameter in vnc.so. Could you
advise how to do that?
2) I am now starting vnc using the vncserver script file. Could the httpd
parameter be set in the vncserver script file?
3) Please note that right now I can use a browser to access desktop 1 with
http://myvncserver:5801 (after starting it with "vncserver :1"). So the
java class files must be accessible already and since my apache web server
is not running, these java classes must be served by the vnc builtin http
server already. I am puzzled as to why I cannot access desktop 0 with
http://myvncserver:5800
Thanks.

Yat-Sat,
Have you ensured that you have the "httpd" parameter set in your vnc.so
configuration settings? You should be able to set it to "<inline>" in
order
to get the Java Viewer working. You'll need to restart your console X
server for the change to take effect.

Subject: Failure to access native display from a browser on port 5800
I have recently setup VNC (Version 4.1.1), with the VNC
Server running on a
RedHat Linux 9 ("my Linux PC"), and VNC Viewer on a Windows XP (SP2).
After I run "vncserver :1" on my Linux PC, I can access the
vnc server
desktop 1 on the server, using either a browser or a vnc
viewer from my XP. I
can even get a Gnome desktop.
The problem I have is trying to access the native display on
my Linux PC. I
can only do that from a vnc viewer, but not from a browser.
After I boot up up my Linux PC (and with or without running
"vncserver :1") ,
I can access the native desktop from my XP, using a vnc
viewer (by typing in
"myvncserver:0" into the server field when the "vnc server: connection
details" dialog comes up. It works like a charm.
However, when I tried to access the native display by using a
browser (with
the url http://myvncserver:5800), the connection was
refused. I am at a loss
as to why. I checked the router in front of my Linux PC, and
the port 5800,
5801 5900 and 5901 are forwarded to my Linux PC, and the iptables at
/etc/sysconfig also have the appropriate lines opening up
5800, 5801, 5900,
5901 for input.
With desktop 1 running, I can connect to my Linux PC with
http://myvncserver:5801. The applet will load and the "vnc
server: connection
details" dialog opens up, and I can type into the server
field "myvncserver:0"
to access the native display or "myvncserver:1" to access the
desktop 1.
Question is why can't I access the native display with
http://myvncserver:5800
?????
Regards,
YS Kwong
