Do you know if you have Sun's Java plugin installed, or are you using the MS Java VM? In IE, go to Tools->Internet Options...->Advanced and enable both "Use Java 2 for <applet>" and "Java console enabled" if available, then restart IE.
If it still happens, go to View->Java Console, and see if there is an error.
If not, check you system tray for the Sun Java icon, right click on it, an open it's Java Console to look for an error. Let us know what you find, and hopefully it will provide the necessary clues...

I have tried everything. I get into my target PC but I get the red x in the
internet explorer window. I can get in via port 5900 using the VNC viewer
but not through port 5800. Am I doing something wrong? I'm convinced that
VNC 4.1 Free doesn't work via http.
