More than likely your viewer is automatically downgrading the connection due to low bandwidth.

However when I am inside and try to access he same session everything is fine. I don't quite understand this behavior. I start the vncserver with the following options: "vncserver -geometry 1400x1050 -depth 24 -cc 4" If I access a session started with the above options from within the intranet ("192.168.0.100:1") everything is fine. On the other hand, if I am outside the network and access the vnc session through the firewall on port 5901 the colors are not displayed correctly. Everything else works though. I access it through ("mymachine.mydomain.com:5901"). Does anyone know how to overcome this problem? I am using "vnc-server-4.0-8" as the server on a Fedora 3 box and "vnc-4.0-x86_win32_viewer.exe" as viewer on a Windows XP machine.
