By the way - the virtual X screen created by vncserver seems to ignore
keyboard remappings set up by xmodmap completely. I tried to remap the '1'
key on the keyboard to display the letter 'e' - xmodmap -e 'keysym 1 = e E'
- and there was no effect. Pressing the '1' key still typed '1' into the
terminal window.
