Hi,

We keep getting the connection reset error. The machine has a cable modem, a
hardwired router and no software firewall.

The internet works fine along with all the other apps on the machine. VNC
4.11 in Win XP is the only problem.

  WE HAVE:

direct connected the modem to the nic. still reset.

  replaced the router, still reset.

  replaced the modem, still reset.

tested the cables and replaced 2 of them. still reset.

wiped the drive clean and reinstalled everything. still reset.

uninstalled/reinstalled VNC twice, on both the viewer and the server sides.
still reset.

I put the server on my machine and a friend's machine. we can both view each
other's pc and vnc runs flawlessly. Try to view the desktop on the office pc,
still reset.

I understand two or three things right now:

  - VNC does not work on the office machine and it used to.

  - Intermittent errors/problems are the hardest to find, meaning the time
before the connection resets is anywhere from 3 seconds to 1 minute. We had
someone from the upstairs apartment come down and fix his internet connection
by wiggling a few cables. I checked and replaced those cables. I also tested
the cable tester with a known-good ethernet cable.

"Intermittent" could also apply to the signal? Could VNC be picky enough
that a Momentary Loss of Signal from the network could cause a reset to occur??

Last, I have a Sawzall and I know how to use it....

I would appreciate any constructive help.

     Joe
