Roger,

VNC uses TCP, not UDP.  If you're seeing lots of errors, though, then this
suggests that your network connection has some serious problems.

What happens if you run a "ping" to the server computer while you use the
VNC connection (e.g. ping -t <server>).  Do the pings stop when the session
appears hung?
