That may be the case... I don't really know for sure. I got the impression
that the vnc.so was the way to go, at least as far as the RealVNC folks (the
AUTHORS of "VNC"). Not that anyone has really come out and said so, just the
impression I've gotten.

Well, vnc.so is developed by the authors of VNC... plus it's a nice loadable
module, IIRC. I'm not really a devel or anything like that, just helping out
to the best of my ability on the list. James "Wez" Weatherall would really
be the one to ask what the benefits of the vnc.so are.
