Thks for the info.

I am having in mind general set-ups for wlans without firewall. I have the IP
and netmask info, but not know how to set-up vnc with them. I'm a newbie to
remote computing.
In the case of vnc, I assume I will have to run nvcserver on the machine I want
to monitor/control and xvncviewer on the other as the controller. Is it
possible to start everything from the controller i.e. remotely starting the
vncserver at the machine to be monitored?

I am running debian etch with kernel-2.6.15 and xorg.
I have downloaded vncserver and xnvcviewer and the only info about using them
is available from the 'man' command.

So, any write-up on examples or real cases of a vnc installation would be
helpful.

thks

Yes, and yes

This is really not a VNC question, but a network question (and you've
not provided anywhere near enough information to answer it - you'd need
to give info on IP addresses, netmasks, firewalls/NAT devices). VNC works
over standard TCP/IP connections, so providing you can route from one
system to the other (e.g. if ping works), then VNC should also work.

Cheers,
