Hi Kasia,

As I stated previously, VNC does not change any network settings, nor
security settings, of either the viewer or the server computer, so I'm
afraid that that can't be the problem that you are having.

The difference between "passive" and "active" FTP is that active FTP creates
has the FTP server connect back to the client for each file-transfer
operation, whereas passive FTP transfers the data using the original FTP
connection that the client made to the server. Active FTP often fails on
modern systems because of NAT firewalls, which won't allow the connections
from server to client unless they actually monitor & process the FTP session
themselves. Similarly, other firewalls (such as the Windows Firewall
built-in to XP) will block active FTP connections if they are not
specifically FTP-aware.

FYI, when you're having connectivity issues, it's always helpful if you can
provide the actual error messages or behaviours that you are seeing, rather
than just saying "it doesn't work"! :)

Regards,

Wez @ RealVNC Ltd.
