Hi there, and thanks for taking a look at my issue: My RealVNC 4.3.1 trial-licensed server is running on a remote PA-RISC-based HP9000 HP-UX 11.11i machine. It supports a palette of up to 256 colors, i.e. in Pseudocolor mode. I've been unable to start my X-server with more colors using "startx -- -bpp 16" so I suspect my server-side hardware does not support modes higher than Pseudocolor.
My problem is that when x0vncserver is running with MWM and HPTERM, all but five of my 256 colors are used. When I start other X-based programs, I quickly hit the 256-color limit, and colors begin to be approximated with widely-varying success (read: often very strange colors are used in place of normal ones). I have two questions: -- Why does VNC use so many colors in the palette? (It uses over half of 256 total colors, comparing how much is used before and after I start VNC.) -- And most importantly, can I configure it to use significantly fewer colors on my server's palette? Thanks in advance for your time and help!
