I just installed the latest version on my laptop (Windows Vista) and on my desktop (Linux). The server is running on the laptop - I see WInVNC4 running as a service. I run vncviewer on the desktop, and try to connect. Here is what happens -
$ vncviewer 192.168.2.3 VNC Viewer Free Edition 4.1.2 for X - built May 12 2006 17:42:13 Copyright (C) 2002-2005 RealVNC Ltd. See http://www.realvnc.com for information on VNC. Sun Aug 3 13:32:57 2008 CConn: connected to host 192.168.2.3 port 5900 CConnection: Server supports RFB protocol version 3.8 CConnection: Using RFB protocol version 3.8 Aborted (before the last line appears I enter the password as set in the server into the popup box) I then ran the vncserver on my desktop and tried to connect to it from the same machine. This is all I get - $ vncviewer localhost VNC Viewer Free Edition 4.1.2 for X - built May 12 2006 17:42:13 Copyright (C) 2002-2005 RealVNC Ltd. See http://www.realvnc.com for information on VNC.
