in zonealarm (free version is only one I have), under security, you have two
sections. Local and internet. Now, I am not 100% sure, but I believe any IP
address in your subnet is local (you can always explicitly define this if
you want). All other IP addresses are internet. Now if you have a listener
(I believe any listener on your zonealarm equiped box is considered a server
by zonealarm), you can disable outside access (outside meaning not your
computer) by checking block server (its blocking the server/listener on your
machine). So if you want to allow another machine to VPN into your router,
then access your box (vnc), try unchecking block local server, then going
into advanced and adding the IP address (or addresses) your remote machine
might use. Also leave block internet servers checked. Also initially set
internet to high and local to low, and see if it works. If it does, keep
upping local security till it breaks, then back it down one.

im not sure that i follow u.

locally, vnc works fine for me. all the machines are set to a local
zone and we can all view each other - no problem.

my question is how do i do this over the net? if my basement machine is
192.168.0.3 (local ip address), how do i get to it. attaching to my
cable modem's ip doesn't move me over to a specific machine in the
lan...
