Good point!
>>I've tried running linux and VNC on a 486/100 which was a bit sluggish
So, just out of interest, is a 25MHz 68030 the slowest machine that VNC
has ever been run on?!
(It compares roughly with a 25MHz 386.)
>>if you did get windows and vnc onto a 386, it would be very painful.
It was very painful indeed (on the 33MHz 68030 in the original e-mail).
> I have been using Xvnc on a 486DX/25 though - that is painful enough,
That would compare very roughly to the LC630 Mac (33MHz 68040 CPU), which
I found was usable, though still a decent bagload of patience required...
In fact, it was quite similar to using my Duo 2300 over 28k modem (but
with Hextiles switched off - that tended to slow down the LC630 too much,
whereas I have it on for the Duo over 28k modem).
So, at the risk of starting some kind of 'oh woe is me' type battle (!),
can anyone better a 25MHz 68030?! (If anyone is interested, that was a
IIci Mac - roughly compares to a 25MHz 386...)
