Hello everyone,
In this e-mail, I'd like to share some bits of news related to TightVNC
and our related products. We did not release new versions for some time,
so I think it would be a good idea to describe what's happening and what
are our current priorities.

The Upcoming TightVNC 2.7 Release
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You might be interested to know that we are about to release new version
of TightVNC for Windows (version 2.7). It should be ready in the
beginning of April and will include the following major improvements:
* Support for new Desktop Duplication API for ultra-fast screen
grabbing on Windows 8. Now we can achieve great performance without
installing a mirror driver.
* Experimental application sharing mode where clients will see all
windows of a particular application while the rest of the screen
remains black. Currently, this feature can be configured via
command line only.
* New option to ask administrative password every time when user
tries to change server's state or configuration. By default,
administrative password is asked just once for every user session.
* New architecture for handling multiple client connections in the
server code. This fixes screen distortions that could be experienced
with two or more clients connected to the same server.
* Improved compatibility with various implementations of the RFB
protocol, in both server and viewer.
* A host of fixes. A lot of issues have been resolved, from cursor
drawing problems to deadlocks, disconnects and potential application
crashes.
Here you can see a video where we test new version on Windows 8 (the
voice is Russian, but English subtitles are available):
Stunning performance!
2. Introducing Remote Ripple
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Remote Ripple is our new remote control client for Android. With Remote
Ripple, you can monitor and control your PC (or Mac) from your phone or a
tablet!
It uses TightVNC protocol and technology, and it can connect to any type
of VNC server, including Apple Remote Desktop!
Remote Ripple costs $4.99, here is its page in Google Play market:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.glavsoft.rrviewer
Note that purchasing Remote Ripple is one of the best ways to support
the TightVNC project. (Commercial source code licensing is another good
method, but it's way more expensive!)
3. Our Code Goes Cross-Platform
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our mission is to make remote control technologies available for all.
Thus, one of our highest priorities is to port our code to as many popular
platforms as possible. We cannot show the results to wide public yet,
but we already have compiled the server on Mac OS X, and ported the
viewer core to several systems: OS X, iOS, Windows RT.
Stay tuned!
