Do teachers have the right to change the Pledge of Allegiance?

I have no expertise in the legal issues here, but I was struck by [1]a
recent case in Wheat Ridge Colorado. A seventh grade teacher took out
"under God" from the pledge and replaced it with "One nation, under
your belief system...". This doesn't make sense even for extreme
relativists. The teacher claimed to have been influenced by the sixth
anniversary of the Columbine shootings (double huh?) and the need for
all-inclusivity. The principal sent home a letter of apology to all
   parents.
