Our customers were also demanding it. We had to do something. As long
time VOPMail users, modusMail was a natural choice.

This should be doable. Look into the modusGate product.

modusMail can be configured on a server, domain and mailbox level in
this regard.

Good question. Depends on what day you ask me. It hasn't been nearly as
reliable as VOPMail, but then it is doing much more than VOPMail.
VOPMail was pretty much just moving files around. modusMail has to read,
parse and decode, analyze, etc. each message. So, given that, it's
performed well. I just wish it failed more gracefully. I've never
understood why a single bad message in the spool would bring down the
server (VOPMail and modusMail). But even this is happening less and
less.

That said, we've had really good luck with the Norman anti-virus engine
built into modusMail. I was a little leery of it at first because I had
never heard of the company. But it has worked well and definition
updates are usually published in a timely manner. Though sieve is only
effective at blocking between 60% to 80% of the spam, it has been pretty
good for false positives. Yves is very good about responding to false
positive reports.

The modusMail interface, on the other hand, is horrendous (sorry,
Vircom, but it really is). Perhaps there's some magic trick to getting
around in there, but I don't get it. Every time I move from one view to
another I lose the record I'm looking at. There's 10 different forms of
navigation on every screen, including buttons across the top, lists on
the left and the bottom, tabs above and below, buttons in the bottom
corner. Worse, all the widgets seem to be Vircom's own and,
consequently, don't function as they would anywhere else in Windows
(i.e. grids aren't sortable by clicking column headers, elements that
should be resizable aren't, windows lack a memory of their position,
etc.).

VOPMail wasn't ideal. It had screens that didn't fit in a 640 x 480
screen (none of modusMail's do, btw). It didn't really have a client
install (modusMail does). VOPMail also suffered from proprietary widgets
(i.e. screens that would close without committing changes and other such
peculiarities). I would have liked to see them convert the old VOPMail
interface into an MMC or Web based interface, but oh well. It is what it
is, and ultimately, it's bearable.

The last major point of contention is price. The modusMail subscription
price has doubled twice in the past year. In that time, no new
subscription based services have been added to modusMail that were not
promised in the initial press release. This isn't to say Vircom hasn't
fixed a lot of bugs, refined existing features, etc. To the contrary,
they've obviously put a lot of work into modusMail. The release notes
bear this out. However, with no new subscription based services in the
same time frame, I'm left to wonder why the subscription price has
jumped so dramatically, not once, but twice.

All this to say, yes, overall, we're content. Be prepared to spend a lot
more time on modusMail than on VOPMail, whether it's hung spools,
dealing with false positive reports, or just learning a new system.
Additionally, be prepared to spend a lot more money, and don't be
surprised if the price is more a year from now than it is now. modusMail
is major commitment in more ways than one. However, if you're customers
are like ours, then they demand the features that modusMail offers.
