Frank that is a different problem. With that one, you will get a good read of the mail until the offending message. This one they get this weird error and it appears to happen inconsistently.

They just get the error... the connection has been terminated... etc.

It appears the Symantec article was updated even today. Click here

Subject: [VOPmail Beta] connection to the server has been interrupted

the unexpected termination sounds like one of those killer emails.  maybe something with a stray line with a period at the margin in the header.  the result usually is that everything up to that message keeps getting downloaded over and over again and nothing past it can be seen.  I'm told if you have webmail running that an answer may be to have the customer log onto webmail and read through deleting what they don't need.  once the bad message is gone things should be okay again.  what I do without webmail running is to try and find the bad message by moving things out of the inbox until they can clear the rest. eventually I'll identify the bad message.

Subject: [VOPmail Beta] connection to the server has been interrupted

I am getting large numbers of reports about problems with email. The following are typical:

*****************************************
(Outlook Express 6)

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'mail.xxxxxx.org', Server: 'mail.xxxxxx.org', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

(Outlook 2000 or 2002)

Task 'XXX - Sending and Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC0F) : 'The connection to the server was interrupted.  If this problem continues, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

another testimony:
Sometimes I receive it - sometimes I can send it - sometimes the error message that my server has terminated either when receiving or sending pops up.  It's rather maddening not being sure if what I've sent gets through.  And I suspect that some of the things I should receive haven't made it - although test mail through Yahoo & hotmail seem to be okay.

******************************************

I am NOT experiencing problems on the network itself but those coming from outside (all my dialup and my remote hosting customers). I have had dozens of calls.

I have changed the network cards thinking this was the issue. It seemed to help but some people still experience problems.

This is somewhat out of the blue as things were quite smooth for months. I did a google search and found this http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=813514 about how Norton updates can cause a problem.

Do any of you have troubleshooting ideas or concepts of where this may be aVOPMail issue?
