I have not done that but have done the following:

We set up SAProxy (spamassassin pop proxy) on a machine and point it to our
main mail server. SAProxy only listens on the localhost IP @ port 110 so I
used a (free) PortMapping program from AnalogX.com

You can accept connections on a specific IP and redirect them to another
IP/Port. I used FireDaemon to run this as a service.

The service has run for weeks with no problem. I am sure you can adapt this
same process to accept SMTP connections on another port of the VOPMail /
ModusMail box and redirect it to the same IP on the other port.

BTW, this way of giving people a new spam filter access to their mail has
worked well for us as a small ISP. I do not know how it will affect the
return receipts though.
