I know that he was exposed to it, but only for a short time before it exploded. If that was long enough to give him cancer then surely Papp himself must have been exposed to massive amounts of radiation over many years. He would have died after a few months I suppose. (Incidentally, Mallove and others think that Feynman caused the explosion, by unplugging the device.) - Jed
