This thread reminds me of a science fiction story I read once. The
hero moved into the high desert and created a large tube extending
into the stratosphere. the cold air coming down caused water to
condense allowing him to garden. Given atmospheric turbulence this
scenario is fancyful, as is most science fiction, I find real science
much more interesting.
