If the object is non-polar and has a low dielectric constant, an electromagnetic "force beam" might pass through it with minimal attenuation. On the other hand, if it really is a type of gravity effect, rigidly held objects would not be moved while loose objects would be. In other words, if I place an object on a table, it doesn't suddenly become weightless because the table is in the way of the gravity. The force of gravity is not attenuated by an interposed object.
