Darn right. My backyard used to have a lot poison ivy. Burn that, and you can cause very serious reactions "far downwind" according to the NIH.

Just because something occurs naturally, that does not make it safe or acceptable. In August 1986, Lake Nyos in West Africa released approximately one cubic kilometer of CO2, killing at least 1,700 people by asphyxiation. (Lately there have been signs that it may do that again.)
