He looked at them closely and then fabricated similar beads with a more even coating that survived loading better. Unfortunately, they did not produce as much heat. Or maybe they did not produce any heat -- I don't recall. They looked a lot better under the microscope. I still have the images somewhere. Patterson told me many times that he could make more beads any time he felt like it, but he never did. - Jed
