I grew up in Utah I know of what I speak. There is no reason to think that ‘threats’ to Pons would be alleviated by moving to France, that’s just plain absurd. It’s as if such threats were only due to something peculiar to Utah as in being separated from the land of Zion is effectively the same as being killed… cast out of heaven. A perfect example of cultist psychology if ever there was.

Russ, Try harder next time to be more offensive and make broader generalizations. :) You made good use of "isms" and "ists," which is good practice when you're being dysphemistic. Moving to do research in the fresh air of the South of France hardly is fleeing into exile due to threats. The reason d’etre for their move was the prevailing dogmatism of ‘merican science, and it has only become ever worse since. Don’t neglect where they were in America, Utah of all places. There can be no more absurd a locale to try to do good science than being awash in a fundamentalist cult religious domain that claims the earth is only 10,000 years old, to say nothing of the American worship of vulture capitalism. What came next surprised me–I saw a man who was truly afraid. He looked like his mind was racing and he was confused and frightened. He said he had been receiving death threats, and threats on the lives of his children. “I have to leave the country!” he said. He could not confirm it, but suspected the death threats were tied to oil companies. I never heard the part about oil companies, but he did get death threats and he was freaked out. - Jed
