How do you explain the transfer of the excess energy to the metal lattice as heat ? Hagelstein's theory for phonon transfer keeps improving over the years. In his theory, the less energy which needs to be shed in the first few downshifts, the more likely the modality becomes since the spread between frequencies becomes manageable. and starting with about 1/3 the starting energy of normal D+D -- due to retro-causality, perhaps the neuglu hypothesis provides a better fit for Hagelstein.
