In an interesting and honest comment about one company's effort to go electric: Herbert Diess the CEO of VW (which at times is the World's largest producer of automobiles) - said publicly (to the amazement of all) that Tesla has an important advantage over "legacy" automakers when it comes to electric vehicles; since they don’t have to worry about protecting their gas-powered car business.
He did not mention explicitly : "investors from the petroleum industry" since that is a given ... but the implication is that he gets constant negative feedback from some of his investors, at the level of Board of Directors, NOT to pursue electric vehicles... Imagine that...
