That all depends on politics. If we could persuade the public that CF is real, speed and efficiency of the research would increase by a factor about 100,000. I am not exaggerating; based on the history of airplanes and transistors, that is roughly how many more people and how much more funding would come into the field. If one or two breakthroughs are made, and a practical cell begins to emerge, there will soon be more progress every month than there has been over the last 10 years.
