I'm glad you asked that Richard. In a Jewish Bible, Tanach, in chapter 9
of the Book of Esther, there are three Hebrew characters which are
printed in a smaller font. they are Shin, Tav, and Vav, these Hebrew
characters correspond to numbers 300, 400 and 6, which total up to 706.
1946 corresponds to the year 5706 on the Sacred Calendar. The Rabbis
attribute great significance to this, although in the past 6000 years
there have been 6 years which might be interpreted as corresponding to
those three characters.
The Rabbis believe that some Germans are of the lineage of Edom, their
arch enemy. The fire bombings of WW II are viewed as a partial
fulfillment of Ezekiel 35 / Obadiah.
