Have now finished reading Franks's "Polywater". 
I can see why established scientists don't want 
to get involved in cold fusion - or even a rose 
by any other name.  8-)

The problem these people have is that they are 
reductionists to a man. They imagine they can 
solve this kind of conundrum from the bottom 
up whereas if they took a top down view they 
would realise that water must have all kinds 
of complex structures within it - just like 
concrete or clays - and the idea of "sieving" 
out a particular level of structure is 
entirely reasonable.

What I found particularly contemptible was 
the way that Deryagin did a volte-face when 
the going got tough. Still, since it wasn't 
his baby but Fedyakin's, like the woman 
before the Solomon, he was prepared to let 
the butchers finish Polly off.
