Are all the dimensions length dimensions? What is the mathematical and physical basis for the spirals coming out of the poles? I am aware there is a twist in the magnetic field at the poles, as can be readily seen when placing a magnet near a CRT screen. But it does not seem to exhibit the number of turns in the drawing.
