There has been research in many areas of so-called "oilgae" and related
biology. Shell has an ongoing work in studies to reduce or modify an excess
of sulphur during the process of refining crude oil. You can be assured they
will share this technology with no one. Petroleum research is a closed door
affair They do not receive their research money through some politically
connected university pipeline into DOE.
Big oil is ramping up research as evidenced by the scope of their
construction project for new lab facilities. Locally the activity is
increasing in the UH-Woodlands area. The many successes are seldom
announced.. again..a closed door affair.
