Horace - with all the "quickening" that has taken place in energy/ climate discussions recently, do you think it might be time for you to present your "energy legacy" and "big picture" files to your congressman? It's just possible that he might be looking for a plan to "make a splash" in D.C. I checked out his position on global warming etc and it's not particularly brilliant, but he does recognise the need for alternative energy sources to lessen dependence on foreign oil...

I think you must have the wrong congressman. I'm an Alaskan. My views on energy have been unpopular here to say the least. Here's the one and only congressman from Alaska:

"Young sponsored a proposal to the fiscal 2006 Coast Guard authorization bill that would have banned offshore wind turbines within 1.5 nautical miles of navigation channels..."

"If you can't eat it, can't sleep under it, can't wear it or make something from it, it's not worth anything."

"Environmentalists are a self-centered bunch of waffle-stomping, Harvard-graduating, intellectual idiots" who "are not Americans, never have been Americans, never will be Americans."

"Congressmen who willfully take action during wartime that damage morale and undermine the military are saboteurs, and should be arrested, exiled, or hanged." ... "a quote wrongly attributed to Abraham Lincoln, but according to his spokeswoman Meridith Kenny, "he continues to totally agree with the message of the statement.""

More quotes from my congressman:

"Environmentalists are a socialist group of individuals that are the tool of the Democrat Party. I'm proud to say that they are my enemy. They are not Americans, never have been Americans, never will be Americans. "

"If I have my way, I'm going to dissolve the Forest Service. They're in the business of harvesting trees and they're not harvesting trees, so why have them anymore?"

"We wonder why we have got the Freemen or the militants. We wonder why we have got unrest in this country. It is because our government, in fact, has got out of hand and out of line, with the Endangered Species Act."
